Photo Friday: Polly’s first egg

WARNING: While I don’t find the following pictures too graphic, you may… that said I hope you enjoy seeing something you might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience.

She began building a nest around Buddy’s chew bone, sat on it and tried it out for size, and then continued building.

Much later I heard a strangely familiar sound, but it wasn’t chickens…

It was Polly laying her first egg!

Molly watches like a good Midwife.

The rest of the flock seemed to be standing guard through the process.

Cheeky and Spot:  “OK, show’s over!   Time for a nap.”

It is never boring here on the Farmlet!

It’s Tuckers ball. I don’t know why, but Polly seemed to gather together things that were the right color of an egg. I am assuming she chose to keep the bone because the ball kept rolling away. Later, right before she actually laid the egg, she tossed the bone aside.

I hadn’t either, that’s why I had to get a photo journal of the event! I rather thought that I was not the only one out there who had not. 😉

Thanks Lauren, I was a bit timid to post this because I was not sure if everyone would have the same reaction as my husband. He was a bit squeamish! Maybe we can handle it because it’s a girl thing? Dunno…

    That’s an impressive catch!!!
As a bird fanatic and a semi-cartoonist, I wish I could have have this moment being illustrated!
Is Polly going to be a mom?

    • pixilated2 says:

Curtis, thank you for the compliment. As for her being a mom, well, we shall all have to wait and see. I am hoping that she will, but the weather here has been horrendous! So far, I have only been able to save one of her eggs out of four. The odds seem to be against it. But, her breed is able to lay from 24 to 27 eggs a year so there is hope for the weather to clear and for her to get it right!

You mentioned you are a cartoonist. Do you have a website where we may go to see your work?

So how about that? Go on; say something!
