A Little Dog’sTale of Woe

Yesterday in the back yard Bob and the Little Dog were playing a rousing game of B-A-L-L  (he’s laying right here by my feet) 😉  and you know how much he loves the game…  Well, after chugging across the yard for the hundredth time, he slides into home, snatches the ball, spins for the return, and suddenly…

He just dropped the BALL!

Yes, he did!  He stood there for a moment and then slowly, very carefully he limped over to Bob and stopped.

We were stunned.

We took him to the emergency vet and they checked him over, but he is not doing so hot.  Nothing serious or life threatening, but he has been pretty wimpy and whiny.  The vet said nothing was broken, thank goodness, but the little dog is just not getting around so good…

This guy, in spite of his pain, is jones’n for his B-A-L-L!

~*~

Oh yes, and the good news is that the vet said he can play again in about two weeks.

🙂

What happened? Sounds and looks like a pulled tendon or such. My mom used to do herself in like that. She didn’t chase things, but she often would walk across her plush carpeting in a particularly dumb set of slippers. She’d turn, and her feet wouldn’t. Not good.

Two weeks, huh? Well, give the Little Dog a pat and a scratch for me. Maybe things will heal faster than that. We’ll hope so!

Linda, We are making him be very careful! No running, no roughhousing, no jumping on and off of the furniture, or playing Army Dog under the bed!!! Yes, we want him fully recovered because he is very demanding about his Ball time. ~ L

TWO WEEKS, he won’t make it, you will have to hide all the toys and the oranges and the apples, everything! he will have to learn to watch the tele or something. Poor wee fella.. c

    Hi,
Don’t you feel helpless when something is wrong with a pet, the best we can do is take them to the vet and hope for the best. It is sad, when they are in pain. I hope everything works out OK for the dog, and he once again can play with his treasured ball.

His painkiller is working wonders. Yesterday afternoon we couldn’t touch him and he didn’t want to walk. Today he’s all about being loved on and will even walk into the kitchen at the sound of a zip-lock or the chip bag! He’s on the mend I think. ~ L

Lynda, we are shocked! Is it a sprain, or a pulled muscle? Good luck keeping him quiet for two weeks. 🙂 Please give him a kiss on the nose for me.

Hi Pam, this was the weekend vet. He wasn’t specific, except to say that their weren’t any broken bones or dislocations. We need to get both dogs in for their yearlies this month, so I will be taking them in this week, instead of at the end of the month as planned. The good news is that he is already getting bouncy, which is also not so good news, as he is not supposed to be doing anything bouncy!

Oh no! I hope your little man feels better real soon! He is very handsome btw 🙂 We actually have a CAT that will play ball with us, lol. She will often, not always, bring the ball back to us when we throw it, it’s the funniest thing 🙂 The rest of our cats will sometimes run after the ball and then stop and look at it once they get to it, but that is normally the extent of their ball playing 🙂
    take care,
    karen

Your little fella will do just fine. Oddly, they take their time healing if we let them. Zoe laid around for a few days until her eye patched up. I’m sending Deer medicine to your Little Dog, to remind him to be patient!

Playing “Army Dog”? Hmm, I used to have the Rope Hat game, Church Baby and the Black Booger Nipple games… ya gotta love how our babies make us silly!

Well, he was getting better, that is until this morning when he tried to kill one of my geese! Seems the goose came out from behind the brick pile where (she thinks) she is hiding her eggs and scared him (and he her)… she hissed, he attacked, and the fight was on!!! She’s OK, but he seems to be back to square one. 😦

ARMY DOG: A game name coined by my sister Alison when she used to live with us. Little dog loves to run as fast as he can, with you chasing him, and then dive under the bed, crawl on his belly to the other side and then emerge to bark at you!

Poor boo! Hope he is better soon. It’s so terrible when they get injured or sick because they can’t tell you where it hurts. My sister had a dog with a bad tooth for a year and she didn’t know! She just thought the dog was getting grumpy. Poor thing had to suffer with a toothache all that time 😦
