This is big news!
Well, OK, maybe it is only big news for me, but I’m sharing it anyway!
The realtor spoke with the Octogenarian and she has agreed to record the history of the Mountain Farmlet for me, and to procure copies of any known early photographs of the home!
So now I’m off to buy a small tape recorder.
Do they still make those?
Looking north the old farm is on your right. I just don’t know if I can stand all this traffic every day! 😉

Life on the Farmlet 
I think they make digital ones now. I just found an old tape recorder of my dad’s. I’d offer to send it to you, but I’m not sure you’d be able to get tapes for it! Exciting news, though – what a gift to have a glimpse into the past if your new home.

Good gosh, the elderly man I help care for asked me the same question the other day about a tape recorder. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I wonder if it’s possible!

Lori, Garden Correspondent says she thinks they make digital ones now. I will be looking for one later today and I will share what I find out.

if you have a laptop, it should have a sound recorder and it saves to an audio file.. i record the bird and frog sounds with it… you could give it an audio check and see how well it picks up voices…

Lisa, this is a great suggesion, and I do have a laptop. However, I broke the hinge on it and I can’t take it anywhere. DRAT. I went looking online and was surprised at how many digital recorders there are out there, and some of them are really inexpensive! So, I don’t mind spending a bit on one, because I can use it to record my thoughts and plots on my writing when I can’t get to my computer or a pencil and paper!!! 😀
Yep. Digital voice recorders are everywhere, in all price ranges. What an absolute gift this is! The thought that you’ll have some history to go along with the new Farmlet is just marvelous. I wish now that I had done more question-asking and history-recording within my own family, but I suppose we all have regrets about that. When we’re younger, there’s so much life to be lived and so much future – who needs the past? 😉
I have a feeling the lady who lives there now may be as eager to tells the stories as you are to hear them. It may help her “let go” of her place a bit more easily, knowing there’s someone moving in who sees it as more than “just a house”.
Sadly, I have my own list of regrets on that score, Linda.
We do, and she knows it! I have it on good authority that she picked us, and let her son know it. I don’t know all the particulars but I love that she liked us so much! 😀

What a special and unique thing to have, and it must make her happy to know she’ll be preserving her and farmlet’s stories.
It is really, and it isn’t every day that you move into a house that is almost 200 years old! It was converted to its current state in the 1920s, so I have hopes that she has a picture of it when it was still a log cabin! Thank you for visiting today, Marie Anne. 🙂

Tape recorder might not be easy to find but it is worth looking for one.

Chantal, courage and fortitude are needed! But, I will be so cheerful in getting the work done. I found a tape recorder. It is digital and has larger buttons that are easy to see and press. I think Octogenarian will have no trouble using it.
Just so you know… I was making a joke about the traffic, because there is NONE. 😉 All we hear is the wind in the trees and the birds when we are there.
You should be excited, how nice it will be to know the history of a place you hold so dear to your heart.
